VOTA Student Internships

VOTA is excited to announce the launch of our student internship program!
VOTA 's student internships provide an opportunity for current OT/OTA students to work closely with VOTA Board Members and Committee Members on an identified initiative. The functions and specific tasks are specific to each assigned internship position. The internship promotes student growth through the development of knowledge and skills with the goal of laying a strong foundation for professionalism and leadership within the State Association and profession. Student internship positions will be offered to VOTA Student Members who are in good standing with the association, successfully complete the application process, and are accepted into the position.

OT or OTA student members in good standing, at any place in their coursework

Student Interns work with VOTA Leadership on the following:

Communications (Marketing, Public Relations)

Conferences and Programming

Member engagement initiatives

Advocacy

Membership promotion and retention
What are the benefits of VOTA Student Internship Positions?

Covered registration cost to the Fall Conference (pay for food costs only)

Free VOTA membership for the first year of practice within the state of Virginia

Certificate of Appreciation at the Fall Conference

Letter of recommendation/reference for employment if satisfactory performance
How do I apply to become a VOTA Student Intern?

Interested student members will complete the application process.

The VOTA board will review applicants. Students will be selected based on the quality of their applications and the organization’s capacity for student interns each year.

Students will be notified of their selection and upon acceptance of the internship position. Based on their preferences and the organization's needs, they will be assigned an initiative and a Board or Committee Member partner.

Our initial cohort of student internships will run from August 1st to December 31st, 2025.
