Why attend conference?

The VOTA Annual Conference provides opportunities for occupational therapy practitioners to earn continuing education credits while participating in a wide range of sessions designed for introductory, intermediate, and advanced learning levels. Come network with colleagues, exchange ideas, and connect with exhibitors during VOTA's largest annual event. Sessions are presented on diverse topics to support professional growth and to highlight current trends and innovations within the field. This year, we are hosting in Fredericksburg, where cobblestone streets, unique shops, museums, and locally owned restaurants offer a variety of ways to relax and enjoy the charm of the region. Join us this year to see for yourself why so many attendees return year after year.

WHAT DO PAST ATTENDEES HAVE TO SAY?

"It's amazing what a nice conference the small but dedicated leadership team could pull together! Thank you!"  - Sarah G.

"What I appreciate the most about the VOTA conference is the opportunity to connect with other OTPs. That alone restores my fervor for the profession." - Hannah C.

"The energy from the board was great!! They presented the information about the state of VOTA in a clear manner. The hotel was comfortable. The food was really good and thank you for having all the drink options."  - Kimberly S.

VOTA is excited to announce our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Kara Keuthan!

Kara Keuthan (formerly Beatty) is a board-certified Psychiatrist that specializes in Brain Injury Medicine. She completed her Bachelors of Science in Psychology at Texas A&M University then attended the University of Texas at Houston for medical school. For residency, she went Virginia Commonwealth University, where she served as chief her last year. After residency, she completed a fellowship in Brain Injury Medicine. In July 2018, Dr. Keuthan started her own practice, Resilience Health, where she provided general psychiatric and neuropsychiatric services. In November 2023, she transitioned to the Richmond VA Medical Center. At the VA, she runs a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) clinic and does research focusing on the transection on Mental Health and TBI.

Besides being a provider, Dr. Keuthan is also a TBI survivor. During the summer after her freshman year at college, a truck sped through a red light and broadsided her driver’s side. She spent 4 days in a coma before going to TIRR for inpatient rehabilitation. She stayed out of school for the fall semester to complete outpatient rehabilitation. She was so inspired by her physician that she decided that she wanted to become a doctor.

She currently sits on the Board of Directors for Community Brain Injury Services and serves as Vice Chair for the Virginia Brain Injury Council. From May 2022 to May 2023, she served as president of the Psychiatric Society of Virginia. Dr. Keuthan is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association for her significant contributions to the field of Psychiatry. She was appointed to Clinical Affiliate Faculty for the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2023, she was recognized by Style Weekly as one of Richmond’s Top 40 Under 40.
