Keynote: Jonna Bobzien, Ph. D
Dr. Bobzien served as an occupational therapy technician before becoming lead teacher at St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children and then Assistant Professor of Communication Disorders and Special Education at Old Dominion University. Her expertise and research interests are teaching children with severe disabilities, collaboration with families of children with special needs, and use of appropriate instructional, sensory and communication strategies for students with autism spectrum disorders to enhance social participation. As a teacher, researcher and parent, Dr. Bobzien brings a unique perspective to designing interventions that support social participation.
Plenary: Judith Schoonover, M.Ed., OTR/L, ATP
Ms. Schoonover serves as Assistive Technology Trainer at Loudon County Public Schools. She passionately believes that all people can engage actively and meaningfully in occupations when performance patterns, environments, tasks and activities are modified and accommodated with the right technological accommodations and supports. Ms. Schoonover has developed a widely recognized collection of technology supports and intervention ideas that support participation.
