CARE for Misophonia Webinar (Tuesday, August 18, 2026)

Misophonia is a newly recognized disorder characterized by strong, negative reactions to specific sounds that can lead to distress and/or impairment in functioning. This webinar covers the current understanding of misophonia, how occupational therapy practitioners can help those affected by misophonia, and the use of a process-based therapy (PBT) framework to target biopsychosocial processes in treatment.

While both members and non-members are welcome, in order to receive a certificate for CEU credit from VOTA, you must be a member of VOTA.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Rosenthal is a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Duke University. He is the Director of the Center for Misophonia and Emotion Regulation (CMER). His team conducts research, offers clinical services, and educates the public and clinicians about the nature, features, assessment strategies, and treatment approaches for misophonia. Dr. Rosenthal is a global advocacy and thought leader in misophonia, serving as a Scientific Advisory Board for the Misophonia Research Fund, as a Board Member for soQuiet.org, as a scientific advisor for the Italian Misophonia Association and Japanese Misophonia Association, as a consultant on numerous studies in the US and globally investigating misophonia, and as a leader for the annual CARE Day for Misophonia. In addition to expertise in Misophonia, Dr. Rosenthal has 30 years of experience treating patients with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and is the Director of the Duke DBT Program, an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary training program using full model DBT. In this role, he leads a team of psychologists, doctoral level psychology trainees, and psychiatry residents providing DBT in a Duke Health clinic. He is a supervisor and mentor for clinical psychology doctoral students at Duke and within the Duke Clinical Psychology Internship Program. Over the last 20 years, he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses, mentored undergraduate thesis projects, and served on empirical project, major area paper, thesis, and dissertation committees. In these roles, he has mentored students, psychologists, and Visiting Scholars, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in the field. Dr. Rosenthal has published extensively and received grants to fund research on misophonia, emotion regulation, and mobile health interventions for adults. He has received grants to conduct research from various funding sources, including the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, foundations, and major donors. He has served as the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Vice Chair of Clinical Services, Director of Adult Outpatient Services, Co-Chief of Psychology, At-Large Board Member to the Duke Health faculty practice, Director of the Clinical Psychology Fellowship Program, and on many committees supporting clinical services at Duke Health. He also served as the faculty lead for the Anti-Racism Community in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. He is a licensed psychologist in North Carolina with expertise in misophonia, borderline personality disorder, emotion regulation, process-based therapy, DBT, and cognitive behavioral therapies. In addition to research, administrative duties, clinical practice, teaching, and mentoring, Dr. Rosenthal enjoys training community clinicians in the US and internationally in DBT, process-based therapy, and other modern evidence-based practices for adults.

Q: How many typically attend the Annual VOTA conference?

A: We typically have a range of attendees from 100 -130 people. A significant portion of our registrants register close to the registration deadline. We typically have final numbers about a week before the conference.

Q: Can I receive a contact list for attendees?

A: VOTA allows registrants to opt in or out of having their contact information shared with vendors at the time of their registration. Vendors will be provided with the contact information of attendees who have opted in within 2 weeks after the conference ends. Vendors are strongly encouraged to bring their own sign in sheet to collect additional emails from attendees who visit their table.

Q: Will attendees have specific times to visit my table?

A: Attendees will have time to visit tables during breaks, poster sessions, and throughout the course of the day.

Q: What time can I set up?

A: We are still finalizing the conference schedule, but we anticipate that you will be able to set up your table around 7:30 or 7:45. More detailed information, including exact times and parking instructions, will be shared approximately a month before the event.

Q: Are vendor/sponsor tables for Saturday and Sunday?

A: Tables are available only for Saturday

Q: Will there be electricity for my table?

A: This varies from venue to venue. Please reach out to us prior to registering to inquire about availability at this year’s venue

Q: Can I ship you items for my table?

A: Unfortunately, at this time we are not able to have items shipped to the venue or to VOTA members
